There has been a growing trend of “sponsored” weddings. With the average cost of a wedding growing to unbelievable proportions, it’s not that surprising. Even celebrities have been known to use their weddings for a chance to bring in some extra bucks. Take a look at what some of these celebrities received or their wedding exclusive contracts:
Jordan & Peter Andre sold exclusive rights tot heir wedding to OK! Magazine for a stunning £1.7m (over 2m US)
David Beckman and Victoria Adams sold the exclusive rights to their wedding photos for OK! Magazine for £1m.
Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas originally sold their wedding photos to OK! Magazine for £1m and then found themselves in a legal battle when it was alleged someone from Hello! snuck in to the bash and took photos.
Cheryl Tweedy & Ashley Cole received £1m from OK! Magazine for exclusive rights to pictures of their secret ceremony.
Tracy Shaw & Robert Ashworth were paid £350K for their wedding photos in June 2001.
Anthea Turner & Grant Bovey were paid £450K for exclusive photo rights and quickly came to regret it. Photos of the bride eating Cadbury’s Sbowflake bars were published shortly after, and she claims she was tricked into taking the photos after she had been drinking.
Brian McFadden & Kerry Katona did receive £300K for photos from their wedding, but even that was not enough to cover the £400K price tag for a marraige that lasted only two years.
Joan Collins & Percy Gibson received £380K for exclusive rights to photos of the 72-year-old bride’s wedding to her 39 year old beau in 2002.
Liza Minnelli & David Gest managed to land a £100K deal with OK! magazine for their 900 guest, £2m wedding in 2002.
Personally, I prefer Keith & Nicole’s approach. The couple, who wed earlier this year, release a single photo and asked magazines that used the photo to donate to their favorite charity – a children’s hospital. A later report though, revealed that MOST magazines failed to make any donation and those that did were minimal. I guess they should have gotten a contract and then donated the money:(
