Perhaps you have dreamed of “the” social event to remember for your wedding day. Sadly, once the wedding planning was underway, you and your husband-to-be soon learned just how expensive weddings can be, especially if you started out looking at urban locations. Perhaps you are also disappointed with the blandness of cookie cutter banquet halls and hotel special event rooms. Don’t fret just yet, with a little imagination and a sense of adventure, you can have an amazing wedding day for significantly less money by looking outside the city limits for equally fantastic venues and services.
Small Town Charm and Hospitality Venue Options
Small towns and rural locations quite frequently cost less than the major event centers and popular urban wedding venues. Urban destinations usually cost more simply because city life in general is more expensive than small town America. In contrast, wedding venues outside densely populated cites don’t have to pay the high-priced cost of urban real estate, pricey advertising campaigns or the generally higher cost of goods in a city. These savings can then be passed along to you. By casting your net a little wider, you could net yourself some big savings with more affordable wedding services, not to mention a unique location.
An added bonus is that the cliché “small town hospitality” could certainly be a reality as you plan your dream wedding. A less hurried pace of small town and rural locations may translate to more personalized and hospitable service for you and your wedding party. It’s been my personal experience that Mom and Pop business owners in small towns just naturally seem warmer and more accommodating to their customers. Think about it, wedding venues in big cities can deal with hundreds of brides every year. It can be a challenge to make a bride feel super special while simultaneously managing numerous other wedding plans. A less populated area that only hosts a handful of special events may be a lot more willing to go the extra mile to make your day especially memorable.
Unique Venue Options
Think about what kind of ambiance you would like to have for your wedding event, and begin your search there. I live outside of Austin, TX, so I’m familiar with unique venues and wedding services in the Highland Lakes region about an hour outside the city and will give you some of my local examples to help you brainstorm.
Do you want a lovely outdoor setting in nature? There are several ranches and nature preserves situated near lakes and rolling hills that burst with colorful wildflowers in the Spring. Is unique architecture or unusual backdrop appealing to you? Falkenstein Castle is a replica of an authentic European castle built in the Texas Hill Country and Longhorn Caverns has gorgeous, meandering cave chambers with amazing acoustics that can be rented for special events. Perhaps you are a wine lover, or want a more sophisticated venue and a local vineyard would be an appropriate setting for your ideal wedding. The Highland Lakes region is enjoying a wine-making boom, and numerous picturesque vineyards provide lovely wedding settings. The point is, going outside the conventional hotels and banquet halls in the city can deliver a truly remarkable wedding venue while also accomplishing your goal of staying within budget for your wedding.
If you are a city dweller, it may initially seem daunting to go outside your city or town to search for wedding venues. However, if you tackle the task with the mindset of your wedding research being a great excuse for some fun-filled day trips, your wedding planning could be quiet the fun-filled adventure! The money savings and unique venue you discover will simply be icing on your delicious wedding cake.
Formerly an innkeeper at Lake Buchanan, Tracey fell in love with the Highland Lakes area and continues to blog and promote the area to visitors. She helped a few happy guests-turned-brides pick out potential wedding venues for their special days and is happy to report they were thrilled with the results.
