I have been in love with the idea of black accents on a wedding dress for a long time already – and while I was browsing PromGirl today – I found a few more that I think would be perfect! Yes- they are prom gowns – but they would make gorgeous and affordable wedding gowns as well. Check it out!!

DIY Quilled Necklace
Posted by Crystal in DIY Weddings, Jewelry
This gorgeous homemade necklace uses a centuries-old technique of quilling that creates a very unique look in beautiful colors that you can customize to suit your wedding. This is also a great way to incorporate keepsakes such as ticket stubs or love letters from the dating and engagement years into meaningful, wearable art. New to quilling? Check your local craft store. Many craft store offer classes to help get you started.
Quilled memory necklace
Supplies and tools:
Thin paper strips for quilling: scrapbook papers, ticket stubs, old love letters and other paper mementos
Quilling tool
X-Acto knife and cutting mat
Tacky glue
1 spool tiger tail
1 package each of 3 mm and 4 mm Blue Moon glass pearl beads
1 clasp set
Crimp beads
Crimp tool
Bent-nose pliers
Wire cutter
2 6 mm jump rings
1/4 yard Tulle
1/4 yard of 1/4 inch wide Organdy ribbon
Hand sewing needle
Thread
Optional book: “The Art of Paper Quilling, Designing Handcrafted Gifts and Cards”
Directions:
1. Using paper strips for quilling, make several flower shapes in various sizes and colors. Set aside.
2. Cut two pieces of tiger tail about 12 inches long.
3. Attach one end of one tiger tail strand to clasp using crimp bead and crimp tool. Trim excess wire.
4. String glass pearl beads for about 8 to 9 inches.
5. Attach one jump ring to opposite end using a crimp bead and crimp tool. Trim excess wire. Set aside.
6. Repeat steps three to five for second tiger tail strand.
7. Cut two pieces of tiger tail – one 8 inches long and another 10 inches long.
8. Attach tiger tail strands to jump ring. Adjust the 8 inch strand to measure approximately 6 inches and the 10 inch strand to measure approximately 8 inches.
9. Lay paper flowers out on work surface so they fit nicely between the two pearl strands and on top of the two tiger tail strands.
10. Cut two pieces of tulle slightly larger than your flower layout, following the outline of the flower shapes. Cut two large strips of tulle – about 3/4 inches wide and 3 inches long – to tie onto necklace at the sides.
11. Sandwich the two tiger tail wires between the tulle. Hand stitch the tulle together close to the tiger tail wire.
12. Tie the tulle onto the necklace at jump rings. Trim tulle to desired length.
13. Cut two pieces of organdy ribbon each 2 1/2 inches long. Tie onto necklace at jump rings. Trim.
14. Glue paper flower in place on top of the tulle following desired layout. Let dry.
15. Add glass pearl beads to flower centers. Let dry.
DOTW: Aidan Mattox Necklace Dress
Posted by Crystal in Bridal Gowns & Accessories
Can you really call it Dress Of The Week if you aren’t posting a new dress every week? Lol – well lets get back to it. I am madly in love with this dress! It’s a simple design by Aidan Mattox with a stunning crystal necklace bodice. It gives you the hot bib necklace look built right into the dress – and it’s stunning.
Oh – and the price is stunning to! Even at it’s retail price of $420 it’s a steal – but you can pick it up for $252 right now at Neiman Marcus!
Wow right?

Do you have a rain plan?
Posted by Crystal in Bridal Gowns & Accessories
Even if you’re having an indoor wedding, being prepared for rain is a good idea. No one wants to show up for the ceremony with drenched hair lol. Today I fell in love with Cheeky Umbrella and their adorable line of designer umbrellas. These would be gorgeous – even if it doesn’t rain lol.
They actually have a couple bridal designs but I love the regular line as well – they would be a great way to add some color and you could coordinate them with your wedding colors.

DRAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my BM’s called David’s Bridal several weeks ago and said “what is the very last day that I can order this dress to have it in time for a wedding at the end of May”.
DB said “April 15th”. So, she called on April 14th and said “I want to order this dress” and they said “sorry Charlie that dress no longer exists anywhere in the universe.”
ANYWHERE. IN. THE. UNIVERSE.
Are you kidding me? They could order one but it would take FIFTEEN WEEKS to get in. FIFTEEN WEEKS!!!! HELLO, we need it in like FOUR! (or less)
So now what? I can’t have ONE girl in a completely different dress. I can’t have lopsided bridal party. (I mean, maybe one of the groomsman could walk down our junior bm… she is pretty tall… but doncha think that’d look plain silly??!!! I do. I mean come on; J should be allowed to be the only cradle robber in the wedding party! Haha!)
Well, after calling every DB in the country, telling them that this is clearly their fault. And that clearly THEY are responsible for fixing it. We decided that the only thing to do is for said BM to get a new dress in cornflower blue. DB said that we could swap out one of the other BM dresses, so we will exchange J’s daughter’s dress for whatever my other BM chooses. So we’ll have 2 in one dress and 2 in another and pray it looks intentional.
SIGH.
Hot Bridal Trend: Bib Necklaces
A great trend that has been popping up on bridal run ways and magazines this season is the Bib Necklace. These large, statement pieces are usually worn with a wedding gown that has a fairly simply bodice and they work together with the dress to create a gorgeous statement. The bib necklace trend is great for budget brides as well. You can save money by choosing a simpler style gown and then add a huge statement with a very affordable bib necklace.
Bib necklaces come in a large variety of colors and styles. You could pick a simply white style, perhaps with fabric pieces like our first example, that will tie into your gown. Or you can pick a rhinestone or crystal piece to add glamor and glitz. Or pick a colored piece that compliments your bridal bouquet for an even more unique look. Here are a few great examples to get you started:

Flora Bib Necklace $148 from Nelle, Lei’s Rhinestone Bib Necklace comes with matching earrings for $39.99 from Emitations, Zsa Zsa’s Rhinestone & Ribbon Necklace for $44.99 from Emitations, Leanna’s Rhinestone Bib Necklace comes with matching earrings for $24.99 from Emitations.
Macrame Lace Wedding Gowns
Posted by Crystal in Bridal Gowns & Accessories

Manolo for the Brides does a neat feature on their blog called the Love/Hate Edition where they feature unique weddings finds that brides will either love or hate. This week they posted a collection of gowns from Rosa Clara using macrame lace and I absolutely love them!
Macrame is basically made by knotting strings together rather then weaving and knitting. When I was a kid, my mom used to make big bulky plant holders using macrame. Of course, macrame lace is much more delicate. I have never seen this technique used on a bridal gown before and I really love the effect it creates. I think the look is very unique and perfect for a vintage style wedding.
Visit Manolo for the Brides and let them know if you Love it or Hate it - and you can find more Rosa Clara here.
Wedding Dress Trend: Layers and Frills
Posted by Crystal in Bridal Gowns & Accessories
If you pick up a copy of the latest bridal magazines at your local newsstand, you can flip through and very quickly see what styles are popular in this season’s newest bridal collections. The Spring 2010 collections seem to carry a lot of styles featuring layers – lots and lots of little layers. It’s a wonderful change from dresses in the past that concentrated all the detail on the bodice and left the skirt very plain. Today’s popular styles offer a lot more interest with eye catching details on the bodice and layers adding interest to the skirt as well.
Here are a few great, budget friendly examples that I love!
