Your eBay Wedding: The Dress

Posted by Chrys on July 21st, 2008

As you start your wedding dress search on eBay, here are a few things to help you find the perfect dress.

It’s All In The Measurements

Now is NOT the time to worry about finding your size by number - you need to concentrate on finding your perfect size by fit.  So, get out your tape measure and well, measure yourself.

You’ll quickly find out that each designer has a different idea of what measurements go with what size number designation so it’s always best to look at the measurements noted on the auction page and order the size closest to your largest measurement.  You’ll probably want or need alterations anyway to make sure that you’re looking absolutely stunning on the big day.

If measurements aren’t listed, please ask for them.  This becomes especially important if you’re purchasing a “used” dress that has been altered from an individual rather than a dress from an online shop or seamstress.

Look Through The Magazines Before You Search

Peruse the bridal magazines to get an idea of what dresses are being offered.

It helps to be specific in your search so if you like dresses from Mary’s Bridal then do a search on “Mary’s Bridal” to see what dresses are on auction.  Often bridal stores will sell of sample dresses this way.  If there is a dress name or style number add that to your search.

In It To Win It

One more thing to stress - If your dress is not listed as Buy It Now - DON’T Get Caught Up In The Excitement Of Bidding To Win!!

You want to make sure you stay within your budgeted amount for your dress.  If you don’t win one auction, look around -or even do so before bidding so you know what your options are- chances are that you’ll find that same dress listed somewhere else.

Don’t be afraid of purchasing a dress from eBay.  The same things that protect you when you’re purchasing the newest video game system or diamond ring will protect you for the items you purchase for your wedding.  Just make sure you are purchasing from a reputable seller and everything should be fine.

Trend Watch: The Heigl Look

Posted by Chrys on January 4th, 2008

b10f_1.JPGOne growing trend predicted to be hot in 2008 is the bird cage veil. Made popular originally by Reese in Sweet Home Alabama and then seen on Jessica in The Fantastic Four.

Katherine Heigl gave the trend a huge boost when pictures of her December 07 appeared in OK Magazine spotting a stunning, chic birdcage veil with gorgeous pear shaped drop earrings!

Custom Monograms

Here is a find I HAD to share!! I found this seller on eBay (yes, I spend a fair bit of time on there, lol) and they offer custom monograms. The ones above are just a few of the options offered, and the cost is fairly reasonable - less then $20 for a digital custom monogram which you can then use on your STD’s, invitations, programs, etc. If you want to try your hand at some DIY projects but aren’t all the graphically inclined - this is a great, affordable way to add a professional touch to all your DIY projects:)

UPDATE: This seller also has a website! If she doesn’t have any listed on eBay, you can find her collection on her website as well.

eBargians #2

Since my last post was about Save The Date cards, I thought I would look for some STD bargains to share today:)  I found a lot, but for this post, I am going to show you three of my favorites:)

First up is a clear vellum Save The Date card, that comes in just about any color you wish. What you do is send them the font color you prefer, and then they find a ribbon to match that font color as closely as possible. These are definitely adorable and priced at $25 for 50 - that’s 50 cents a piece. Not bad at all. You can also pick from a large selection of font faces so that it better matches the look and feel you are aiming for with your wedding.

I also liked these Shadow Box Magnet save the date cards. I like the dimensional idea, it’s a nice twist on the popular magnet choice. From what I can tell, they are only available in the white and black - but they are very elegant and would work with any wedding scheme.  These ones are $48 for 48 - so twice the price as the ones above, but that is till a fairly decent price.

And my last find is not a card, but it’s a nice touch. These are Save The Date envelope seals, and they are just adorable so I had to share them:) They are fairly cheap as well, a set of 25 seals is less then $4. If you have the budget for that, it’s an awesome way to add a finishing touch to you STD’s before you send them out:)

On my White Lace Wedding blog, I do a feature called Fab Finds where I share some of my favorite wedding finds. I thought it would be fun to do something similar here, but featuring fabulous wedding things that are also fabulously affordable. SO - here with are with eBargains:)

Our first eBargain is this lovely white and silver snowflake ring pillow, with a sheer organza overlay, Absolutely lovely for a winter wedding. I would take it and add a wide silver ribbon around the middle for an extra touch. I found this one at Wedding Accessories By Jessica for $9.99.
