I love this ring pillow idea that I found on Paper Cakes (check out the summer wedding feature it was part of – so pretty!). This particular ring pillow is from the Clover Lane Boutique on Etsy. If you’re a DIY with some embriodery talent – you might want to turn this into your own DIY project. If not – they’re actually pretty affordable at $39.95 from Clover Lane.

DIY Crocheted Heart Garland

I absolutely LOVE this project idea! The hearts can be made in whatever colors best suit your wedding and can be used to dress up your alter, guest book table, head table, sweetheart table, escort card table, and more. If you don’t have crocheting skills already – this might be a great chance to enlist the help of your mom or grandmother. Another great idea would be to have friends and family members collaborate to create a one -of-a-kind keepsake decor piece that brings together hearts made for your by your loved ones.

It’s been very warm over the last two weeks – warm as in we’re hiding out in the house to avoid heat stroke and drinking water and lemonade like it’s going out of style. Summer is the most popular season for weddings and while there’s nothing I love more then a romantic outdoor summer wedding it can get pretty hot as well. DIY Marshmallow Fondant

Today I had a chance to try making this Marshmallow fondant myself so I thought I would post a quick update and repost this. The fondant actually tasted quite good. VERY VERY sweet (its sugar and marshmallows after all) so you probably don’t want to eat to much at once, but since it’s just a thin layer over the cake – it’s not bad at all. The fondant was fairly easy to make (though it gets to be quite thick which makes it quite the workout for your hands lol) and was very easy to work with once it was made as well.

For those who want to know – here is what I was making. It’s a zoo themed birthday cake for a friend’s son and the hills are covered with the pale green marshmallow fondant that I made.

Fondant is a popular choice for wedding cakes because of the smooth, clean look it creates but it doesn’t usually win much praise in the taste department. My DIY Bridal Hair

One of the things that we did to save money when we renewed our vows last year was to do our own hair/makeup. To be honest – I prefer to do my own makeup so it wasn’t much of a sacrifice lol. For my hair, I picked a style that I knew I could accomplish myself. I choose this style because it was simple and sophisticated and could easily be dressed up with a little bling. The hair is blow dried over a round brush and back combed to to create a somewhat vintage look. The headpiece that I used cost me about $10. I bought the hair clip from Etsy and the satin ribbon from a local dollar store and then created it myself.

If you’re thinking about doing your own hair – my advice is this:

- Pick a style that you can handle, that makes sense for your hair

- Practice! I actually wore my hair in a similar style for a few events earlier that year just so I could be sure that I could make it look like I wanted and that it would stay all day long.

Wine Glass Cherry Blossom Shades

I absolutely love these wine glass shades! They transform a standard wine glass into a beautiful cherry blossom candle lamp that can be used as part of your centerpiece. The shades are very budget friendly (about $1.30 each). Your venue/caterer may have wine glasses you can use or you can rent them for a very low cost from a local wedding rental shop.

Sex In The City Inspired DIY & More

Before the first Sex in the City movie came out, I’d never seen the show. I wouldn’t say I wasn’t a fan – I just didn’t have cable at the time and my limited channel selection didn’t offer the chance to watch the show. I didn’t quite understand all the hype – but once I had a chance to see the movie, I loved it. First, there’s a wedding. Well almost a wedding. That pretty much sold me already lol. Then there’s the fashion! I get it! I understand why so many women LOVE the show. The shoes! The clothes! The fabulousness! I can’t wait to see the second movie.

Anyway – I have seen a few Sex in the City inspired DIY projects recently and I thought I would share a few of my favorites.
