B is for Butterfly
Posted by Crystal in Butterfly Weddings
Butterfly themed weddings are obviously not a new trend, but they continue to be a staple in wedding planning themes each year. Butterflies are soft, feminine and generally gorgeous – so it makes sense that brides would see them as a wedding feature. What I love about butterfly weddings is the large variety of colors and seasons it can fit into. Fall? orange and black monarchs make a stunning wedding them. Winter? Take advantage of the glimmer and glitz of winter with silver butterflies. Spring? Pastels of course.
My favorite is the green handmade butterflies shown in the gallery below – Blush made an absolutely gorgeous style board that featured that particular butterfly earlier this year, check it out!
Here are a few of my current favorite butterfly wedding things. Sources are listed below:)

My Cousin’s Butterfly Wedding

For our butterfly theme brides – here is some wedding sugar from my cousin’s wedding this past weekend:) Enjoy. When I return from Chicago, I will spend some time sharing some of my favorite parts of her wedding with you:) For now, I hope this sparks some inspiration for you.

Butterfly “Curtain” or “canopy”
Posted by Crystal in Butterfly Weddings, Decorations
In a magazine I read recently, there were photos from a Jewish wedding were the huppa that was made with suspended butterflies rather then cloth. This idea could be used for a backdrop at the alter or behind the head table at a butterfly themed wedding.
Using cloth or paper butterflies, suspend them at different heights, and varying distances from the wall for a realistic 3D effect. The butterflies can be suspended on clear fishing wire so that it looks like they are just fluttering in place.
If you want to go all out, suspend butterflies over the dance floor. Or for a really unique centerpeice, suspend butterflies at different hieghts from the ceiling over the center of the table.
Monarch Butterfly Templates – DIY Idea
Posted by Crystal in Butterfly Weddings, DIY Weddings, Invitations

ThinkWeddings sells templates for DIY brides who want to print their own invitations, RSVP cards, save the date cards, programs, place cards, thank you cards, cd labels, guest sheets and more. They have an entire collection featuring Monarch Butterflies that are simple yet could be VERY elegant.
The image above is the template for the invitation. This template is $9.95, or $14.99 if they add the text for you. My suggestion would be to take this template, add your wording in an elegant black font.
- Print the invitation on white cardstock or a vellum depending on what you prefer.
- Then, cut some burnt orange cardstock 1/2 inch larger then the invitation.
- Line the inviation and ornage backing up so the white invitation is centered on the orange cardstock. I suggest using scrapbooking double sided tape to stick them together rather then glue to prevent bunching.
- Now you can finish off your invitation by attaching a brown ribbon, small leaf charm, a butterfly charm or something similar at the top of each. For a different look, cut two short lengths of brown ribbon, and attach between the white and orange layers at the top and bottom. Then, fold the invitation in half and tie with the ribbon!
You could also use yellow, black or brown for the cardstock.
Butterfly fall Wedding?
Posted by Crystal in Butterfly Weddings
I got an email recently from a reader who wanted to know if a butterfly theme can work for a fall wedding. Now, I am a firm believer that your wedding should work for you first – not the season – but when it comes to your budget – there are many reasons why you would want to stick with a theme that uses seasonal colors, flowers etc. So, I decided to give it some thought.
Generally when you think of a butterfly wedding, you think of pastel colors, spring flowers, etc. So, who do you make this work for fall? MONARCHS!! Yes, those lovely orange and black winged butterflies! Their orange coloring makes them perfect for a fall wedding because they will match the colors that are in season for this time of year!
SO, this will be our theme for the next little while. I will spend some time looking for resources from decor to wedding invitations online featuring monarchs. So, if you are planning a fall butterfly wedding, bookmark our blog and check back often:)
(PS – the butterfly invitation pictured below is from a great little site that carries a wonderful selection of wedding invitations online in every price range. This style is elegant yet simple enough to work for a fall or spring wedding!) ![]()

COTW: ORANGE wedding favors
Posted by Crystal in Butterfly Weddings, Decorations, Flower Wedding Themes, Wedding Favors, Wedding Themes
This is the last day of our Orange Week, and I will finish off with some orange wedding favor ideas – unless I find a Must See before then end of the day, lol. Enjoy:)

These beautiful favor boxes are $1.95 from Shophie’s Favors. You can fill the box with chocolates or mints and add a beautiful, floral touch to each place setting!

This Large Glass Butterfly might be a bit expensive for a wedding favor – at $8 each. But, it would make a lovely and inexpensive centerpiece. Surround it with silk daisies for a butterfly garden feel.

Orange Marzipan Roses from Marzipan World are cute idea for a favor. They are $2.63 each including the box, and are Gluten and GM Free! For a special touch, using orange ribbon or an orange stamp to decorate the boxes.

For a more affordable option, you can purchase orange organza bags in bulk and fill with mints or candies. I found these ones on Ebay. You get 100 bags for about $14 including shipping!
