Designing an Autumn or Winter Wedding

Although people tend to think of June as the traditional wedding month, autumn and winter weddings offer some benefits that a couple may want to consider when selecting a date for their wedding. The first benefit to an autumn or winter wedding is that it is somewhat off season. Therefore, a couple may find less competition for a time slot at their church, synagogue, hotel, or other venue. Furthermore, photographers, bands, disc jockeys, florists, caterers, and limousine services may offer discounts during the autumn and winter when their business may slow down.  Couples who marry during the autumn or winter months may be able to save significant amounts of money on decorations.

An outdoor venue that takes advantage of the leaves changing colors in the autumn can be a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding ceremony. Moreover, many venues, such as hotels, inns, or even churches, for instance, routinely decorate during the winter season. They may drape garlands of greenery along the banisters of stairways or around doorways, sometimes interspersing gold, silver, or red bows. Perhaps they even place poinsettias around the altar or in the lobby. When choosing a venue, the couple should inquire what, if any, kinds of decorations they might anticipate at the venue on the date of the wedding. Even if cost is of no concern, this is a worthwhile inquiry because a bride might think twice about pink floral decorations if the venue is going to be displaying red poinsettias at the same time. If the venue is going to be decorated for the autumn or winter season during the time of the wedding, the couple may wish to find a way to incorporate those decorations into their design scheme for both aesthetic and economic reasons.

Autumn offers couples the opportunity to incorporate seasonal decorations, such as small pumpkins and gourds as well as leaves into their table decorations. Winter weddings offer the opportunity for winter wonderland décor, such as branches painted white or silver and draped in crystals. Furthermore, bridal parties for autumn and winter weddings can wear richer, bolder colors that make for a fabulous change of pace from the light, frothy pastel décor of spring and summer weddings. Bold colors, such as vivid orange, ruby red, sage green and rich brown, work well in autumn and winter weddings. Furthermore, metallic fabrics, such as silver, gold, and bronze, can be incorporated successfully into autumn and winter wedding parties.

Of course, when planning an outdoor wedding in autumn or winter in climates where the weather gets cold, couples should be sure to have a backup plan in the event of inclement weather. Except for that potential drawback, however, and the fact that the wedding anniversary may always fall into the busy holiday season each year, autumn and winter weddings offer a plethora of advantages for the couple who is not interested in a run of the mill wedding.

Our Favorite Fall Wedding Favors on a Budget

My favorite new idea for fall wedding favors: Candy Apples for .33 cents each!  I LOVE candy apples and they fit perfectly into the harvest season so I was really excited to see a post on Bronze Budget Bride about candy apples she found for only 33 cents each!  I’ll let you hop over to her site for the details on that one.  In the mean time, here are a few other budget friendly fall wedding favor ideas that I love!

1. New Beginnings Bookmark ($1.98 each) – while every wedding is a new beginning, I think this favor would be even more meaningful for a second wedding or a wedding that blends two families together.  2. Leaf Placecard and Favor Boxes ($25.12 for 12) – While $2 per favor, not including candy, may not seen cheap at first you have to consider that this gives you a wedding favor box, a placecard holder AND the placecard so you are combining 3 costs into one.

1. Fall Themed Wedding Cake Candle ($2.08 each) – These are adorable, and can double as part of your tablescape/decor.  2. Autumn Elegance Favor Box Kit ($24.95 for 50) – At 50 cents per box, these favor boxes are VERY budget friendly. I love the unique shape and the fact that you could customize the leaf label to use them as place cards as well if you wished.

The Top 5 Reasons to Have an Autumn Wedding

Many people prefer to have their magical day during the summer months, but an autumn wedding can be truly captivating and romantic due to the fantastic colours and mild climate that this season provides. Let’s take a look at some of the best reasons to have an autumn wedding…

Decorate with autumn in mind

Autumn brings many beautiful colours and it can be a great idea to theme your wedding around the season. Autumn colours such as burnt oranges, browns and rich reds can be warm and romantic, and they can be easily incorporated into your wedding décor. You could even have your flower girl throwing colourful golden leaves instead of flower petals, or you could make your wedding invitations in the shape of a leaf.

Plan an autumn-themed menu

This is a season that brings many tasty foods, and you can easily conjure up a menu that breathes the delicious flavours of autumn. Why not greet your guests with a glass of warmed, mulled cider, and serve a game bird like pheasant or quail for the main course. Delicious!

No extreme weather

The weather can be just as perfect in autumn – the uncomfortable summer heat has vanished but Jack Frost will not be nipping at your nose just yet. This gives you a great reason to appreciate the outdoors and bask in the comfortable temperatures and magnificent autumn scenery. Your wedding photographer will be in their element with a backdrop of attractive golden foliage for your wedding photos.

Venues likely to be cheaper

With most people preferring to tie the knot in the brighter spring and summer months, having your big day in autumn can save you a lot of money. Hotel wedding venues are likely to be cheaper and services such as wedding photographers and caterers will be more affordable.

Candlelight

Depending on the time of day which your wedding will be held, it would be a great idea to add candlelight to the ceremony. Not only will it great a captivating and attractive backdrop but it is incredibly romantic. Imagine saying your vows to your partner in the warming glow of candlelight.

There are many hotel wedding venues, such as castles and fabulous hotels that will offer you affordable prices in the autumn months – take advantage and set the date today before it’s too late and you have to wait another year before you tie the knot!

A Is For Autumn

A Is For Autumn

If you’re planning your wedding September-November why not consider an Autumn, Fall or Harvest theme?

The colors of Autumn lend themselves beautifully to a warm and welcoming day. There are so many rich shades that can be paired for a beautiful color scheme. Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Browns, Coppers, Creams and Tans would all be stunning color combinations.

I found an invitation in burgundy and orange that I fell in love with and decided to create an inspiration board around it.

I hope it sparks creativity as you plan your Autumn Themed Wedding.
