DIY Flower Seed Wedding Favors
Posted by Crystal in DIY Weddings, Flower Wedding Themes, Garden Wedding, Green Weddings, Wedding Favors
Flower seeds make a great wedding favor – especially if you are having a floral themed wedding or an outdoor wedding. The great thing is that seeds can also be a very affordable wedding favor. You can buy a bulk pack of seeds for around $40-$50 and little bags to hold individual bunches for about $3 for 50. Martha Stewart has a few really cute ideas for packaging seeds as a wedding favor – including printable templates.
Click on each image for complete instructions and templates from Martha Stewart Weddings. I really like how the second one doubles as placecards as well.

Valentine’s Day with Martha Stewart
Posted by Crystal in DIY Weddings, Decorations, Flower Wedding Themes, Garden Wedding
Hey guys, Happy Valentine’s Day! Martha Stewart Weddings Editor, Darcy Miller posted a whole selection of heart-shaped inspirations on her blog this morning and there are two that really caught my eye! The first was this heart shaped bouquet, which was on the cover of the first issue in 1995! Just goes to show that really good ideas don’t ever get old:)

The other one that caught my attention was this adorable centerpiece using simple white egg cups with ranunculus arranged in a heart shape. It’s a beautiful DIY centerpiece idea, affordable and very unique! I think the little egg cup idea would be adorable for escort cards as well! Set up a display of interlocking hearts, and place a small name tag in each. Very cute.

Wedding Cake Gallery

I found this amazing Tiffany Blue and Chocolate Brown wedding cake design in the Cake America Wedding Cakes Gallery. If you are looking for cake ideas, this gallery is wonderful! They feature cake designs from many different designers and each cake includes a photo, contact information for the baker, and often a price as well so that you know what to expect. They have quite a few small/low budget wedding cake options as well.
Some of the examples include a chocolate brown fall wedding cake for $65, a gorgeous brown, ivory and blue swirl design that feeds 70 people for $150, and a beautiful orchid design that starts at $100.

Orchid Dress Idea
Looking for a way to bring your orchid theme into your bridal gown or your bridesmaid gowns? Take a look at this lovely gown:

The dress is a bridesmaid version of Madison from Chrys Cross Bridal – with a burgundy sash. The dress came with a large floral flower which we removed and replaced with a simple orchid hair clip that we purchased for $5 on ebay! Voila – a lovely orchid bridesmaid gown!
You can match the sash colors to the theme/flowers as well. If you are using orchids with a pink center – choose burgundy, pale pink, yellow, sage green etc. For the yellow centered flowers, try yellow, baby blue, dark blue, sage green, etc.
You can get the bridesmaid version (which has a slimmer skirt the then bridal tea length version) by special request for $199 including shipping. And of course – the bridal version for an informal or semi formal wedding would be perfect as well! Want it more formal? As them to make it floor length with a train for $399 and you now have a perfect orchid themed formal gown!
In Love With Phalaenopsis Orchids
The exotic phalaenopsis orchid has been a very popular choice for today’s brides, even making it into the biggest weddings this year (Eva Longoria & Tony Parker, July 7, 07) and last year (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes).
It’s not hard to see why this amazing flower is so popular – it’s unique in that it works for almost anything! It is formal enough for the most elegant black tie weddings, exotic enough for the most exotic destination location, and still fun enough to fit in and add a touch of elegance to even a informal, casual event. The bright white color matches everything, and works with nearly any theme and season.
Of course, the flowers themselves are beautiful enough that some brides even use the flower itself as the theme that ties the wedding together.

Phalaenopsis Orchid Bouquet Ideas
Phalaenopsis orchids, while beautiful, are also not the most budget friendly flower. That doesn’t mean you can’t have them in your wedding on a budget, it just means you have to be wise.
The key is not to overdue it. An entire bouquet of orchids is nice – but a bouquet of less expensive flowers like roses or carnations – designed to showcase 2 or 3 orchids can be just as stunning and much less costly. Even just a few sprays, tied together into an arm bouquet, is stunning! If you love the all-orchid bouquets above – splurge a little on yours and choose a less costly flower for the bridesmaids, making your bouquet the focal point of the floral decor!
The same goes for centerpieces – the beauty of the orchid is it’s simple, clean lines. A single potted orchid with two stems makes a stunning, modern and elegant statement without overdoing it. By finding places to use your orchids as focal points and accents, you can the elegance without a huge price tag.
Additionally, it is a good idea to compare silk and real prices and see if you can find a great deal on a good silk version that you can use to accent bouquets, centerpeices, the cake, and more.
Green and White Spring Wedding
Posted by Crystal in Decorations, Garden Wedding
Asked On Yahoo Answers:
so what should i choose as wedding colors? i like pastel green and white..its an outdoor wedding in may? any suggestions?
My Answer:
green and white work well on their own – or you could add in pink. lavendar, baby blue, yellow or just about any other color. The great thing with white and green is that they both match everything, lol. Other common colors used with green which can all work for spring in the right hues: orange, peach, chocolate brown, silver
Since it is an outdoor wedding, you will already have a lot of green in the scenery. I would suggest picking one or more complimentary colors to add to the mix to make your wedding stand out from the scenery a bit.
The problem with green is that everyone is so used to it being the accent color that as soon as you add another color, the green takes second string. If you want to avoid that, use a cream or chocolate brown color to add interest without distracting from the green – or use metallic accents like gold or silver instead of color accents.
Another option is to use different hues of green and whites throughout the wedding (dresses, table clothes, napkins, etc) but then add interest by using a combination of pastel colors in the flowers for the wedding party and for the centerpieces. This leaves green as your main color everywhere but still lets your wedding stand out a little.
And lastly, a final option would be to have a theme other then color. For example – have a calla lily theme. Since calla lilys are white and green, you could do the entire wedding in white and green and it would be extremely elegant and the theme would tie it all together and make it very unique!
