DIY Favor Box Templates

prp02.jpg This fabulous DIY project was featured on Something Old, Something New earlier this week. These DIY favor boxes are made using a template from A Little Hut that you can purchase for $3.99. You get all four templates, and you can pick your favorite or mix a few together for a unique touch.

There are so many ways you can change this up without much extra work. The easiest way: paper. You can pick any color you wish, or even pick a patterned paper with a modern sleek stripe, fun polka dots, a preppy plaid, etc.

If you want to take it a step furthur, you can personalize the design even more using stamps, glitter, or small rhinestone appliques. Or wrap a satin or paper ribbon around the sides of the box.

Some Great Oriental Trading Finds!

I was just surfing though the Oriental Trading wedding section to see what they had on sale and two items caught my attention! The first was this Glass Cake With Dove Topper
icon which comes with a gorgeous gift box. It’s on sale for $2.95, and it could make a great wedding favor if your budget allows. Otherwise, it would make an adorable little keepsake for your wedding party, parents, grandparents, etc.

The other item was this White Hydrangea Wreathicon which is on sale for less then $6! It would make a gorgeous, affordable center piece. Just add a candle in your favorite color and VIOLA!! Centerpieces under $10! Want to make it a little fancier? Many wedding rental companies will have glass or silver raised cake trays you can use to lift it off the table for an extra wow factor, and then sprinkle silk petals underneath. Still very affordable.

Wedding Cookies

Here is another great idea for wedding favors. These custom cookies start as low as $1 each and can be decorated to your specifications! Shells for a beach wedding – leaves for a fall wedding. A winter wedding I attended recently had gingerbread snowflakes with white icing as their wedding favors. Need some more ideas? What about a flag for a July 4th wedding, or a castle or frog prince for a cinderella themed wedding. The cookies shown here are from Ali’s Sweet Treats. They also offer photo cookies – made using a photo your provide! They can package them in cello and ribbon for you as well.

Ferrero Favors

of50590393.jpg

Here is an AWESOME idea for a wedding favor/escort card combination that is both classy, unique and affordable! Take a look at the cost breakdown:

The Chocolate: Locally, I can get them in a pack of 3 for $1 any time of year. That’s 33 cents each. If you buy large packages, it’s even cheaper. And – they are beautifully wrapped right out of the box!

The Tooth Picks: Get good ones, it will still only cost you about $2 for 100 or more!

The Circles: Make it easier for yourself and buy or borrow a large circle punch. Check on eBay, where you can get one for $10-$15 or so. Look for something around 1 1/2 – 2″. Design a simple circle and print out 15/sheet on cardstock, then punch out with your circle punch. Make sure to print two for each name. Use double-sided tape to attached the circles to the picks.

Not into the computer thing? Just punch out plain circles and decorate them with stamps or have the names done in calligraphy (adds to the cost though).

Cost if you buy a punch and print your own: less then 50 cents per favor!

Credit for this find goes to a $10,000 wedding, who stumbled across this awesome idea by a recent Los Angeles bride. Wedding Photographer: Teness Herman.

DIY(Do it Yourself) Wedding Favors For The Creative Bride

Wedding favors are a tradition that allows the bridal couple to make their wedding guests feel special. It is a small way to say thanks for joining in the celebration of their new life together. To make the wedding favors even more personal, some brides choose to make their own bridal favors. Here are some great “Do It yourself” wedding favors that your guests will just love!

DIY Wedding Favor 1: A Spoonful of Love

Materials: To make these DIY wedding favors you will need 1 silver finish tea spoon, 1 silver heart shaped candy, a 5” square of silver net and a 3” piece of silver ribbon. *SAVINGS NOTE* On www.orientaltrading.com you can buy plastic spoons in a number of different colors including chocolate brown, blue, pink, white, ivory, silver, gold, green, etc. They are $3.95 for 50. They also carry ribbon, candy and net.

Method: Place the candy in the spoon. Wrap the silver net around the spoon and candy and tie with the ribbon. Make a bow to finish with a flourish. Your DIY wedding favors are complete!

You can give these spoonfuls of love to all your guests as wedding favors. If you want to customize these DIY wedding favors you have several options. You can buy ‘Thank you’ printed ribbon, have the heart shaped candy customized with your names or even have the handle of the spoon engraved with a message. Try adding a personalized tag or use ribbon with your names and wedding date imprinted on it to give it a stylish touch.

DIY Wedding Favor 2: Handmade Paper Favors Bag

Materials: To make these DIY wedding favors you will need a sample paper bag in the size you want, decorative handmade paper, scissors, glue, candy, ribbon (in your favorite color) and matching tulle.

Note: Depending on the size of bag you want, buy as many sheets as required. Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy an entire roll of handmade paper from wholesalers.

Method: Open the sample paper bag along the stuck edges. Use this as a stencil and trace the outline on the decorative paper. Cut along the outline. Fold and stick as per the sample. Take a square piece of tulle and put some candy on it. Bunch up the edges and tie with the ribbon. Put the candy in the DIY wedding favors bag. Your DIY wedding favors are complete!

The special thing about these DIY wedding favors is that they are extremely versatile and customizable. You can use decorative paper, which matches the color or theme of your wedding. You can even make your own decorative paper (that’s another DIY wedding favors project by itself though!). You can also use the DIY wedding favors bag to hold favors other than candy.

Though DIY wedding favors can take more time then buying them already completed, the extra effort you put into them will be felt by all your guests and make them that much more special. So roll up your sleaves and add that personal touch to your big day!

Save on Favors with a personal twist!

897937_caramel_fudge_at_a_funfair.jpgThis idea came from a wedding I attended recently and it not only saved the couple a great deal of money, but it gave them a chance to personally connect with each guest! Instead of traditional favors, they had a large basket of mints and candies, and the bride and groom went around after the meal and had them out, visiting with the guests as they went! The personal touch was wonderful and to be honest, it’s probably one of the few “favors” I remember, and that was 4 years ago!

The bride herself said that she liked the idea because it gave them a chance to connect with each guest and they didn’t waste money on something that 95% of the guests would have thrown away!

Wedding Buffets

Buffets seem to be the thing to do in weddings right now – and I don’t mean for dinner. There are some great buffet ideas hitting the top weddings and I thought I would compile a run down of my favorites and why I think they are worth considering.

1. Candy Buffet – How didn’t LOVE walking into a candy bar as kids? A candy buffet is a fun way to relive that memory at your wedding. A candy buffet replaces traditional wedding favors and gives your guests a chance to pick the candy THEY want. Surveys continually show that guests prefer edible favors – the a candy buffet has been a HUGE hit over and over again. A candy buffet is not always a cheap option, but check out our Candy Buffet section in the side menu for ideas on how to make more affordable.

2. Popcorn Buffet – This is a new one I read about last week and it sounds like a great alternative or addition to the candy buffet. Basically, you set this up like a candy buffet but with different flavored popcorns, regular popcorn with seasonings, etc. You can also look into renting a popcorn maker an offering theatre style fresh popcorn at your reception. There are plenty of types of caramel and flavored popcorns that you could make yourself and this could be a very very affordable alternative to candy and a affordable wedding favor.

3. Coffee Buffet – This is something I haven’t seen often but read about recently and loved. It’s like having a coffee bar at your wedding. If you have decided not to offer alcohol but want something more exciting then punch this might be just the ticket. A coffee buffet would include basic coffee, espresso, etc. You should also have things like teas and hot chocolate for those who don’t drink coffee. Your coffee buffet can also include dessert items like coffee cake, biscuits and other desserts that you might find at a local Starbucks or other coffee shop. A coffee buffet can be a very chic and affordable alternative to alcohol and it makes a wonderful addition especially for a winter wedding.

4. Dessert Buffet – Basically, the idea with a dessert buffet is to offer a selection of desserts rather then a wedding cake. If you want a wedding cake, you can have a smaller cake and then offer the buffet rather then cake for dessert. A dessert buffet has a great number of benefits. In many cases, a dessert buffet will be cheaper then a cake but that will depend on your caterer and the desserts you choose. If you aren’t having a caterer, you can get desserts at the local grocery store or bakery – or even bake them yourself. If you do them yourself, aim for desserts that can be made a week or two earlier and frozen so that you aren’t baking the night before. Another benefit of a dessert buffet is the selection. Not everyone likes cake and no matter what type of wedding cake you pick, some guests won’t like it. A dessert buffet offers more selection, and most guests will find something that will suite their tastes.
