Valentine’s Wedding Favors

If you are planning a Valentine’s Themed wedding – or any red/pink themed wedding – this is the time to shop for favors: with valentines/red/pink items available in nearly every store, there are some really unique items available that you won’t want to miss out on. Here are a few we found online:

This cute little tin buckets stand 3″ high and are perfect for holding candies, cinnamon hearts, mints or chocolates. Available in sets of 12, they are about 84 cents each!

These glass votive holders are adorable – and they come personalized with whatever you wish: your names and date for example. They are very affordable ($10 for a dozen) and can also double as part of your lighting/table decor.

Here is a unique twist on the Chinese Take-out Box idea. You can put candies, mints, chocolates or other small goodies in these 2 1/2″ high boxes. The best part – at $3 for a dozen, that is only 25 cents per box!!

If you prefer a longer-lasting favor, and want to avoid the regular old candy routine – these valentine magnets may be just the thing. They look good enough to eat, and are very affordable at about $1 a peice.

Another non-edible favor idea, these little angels stand just over 2″ high and would add an elegant touch to any table! Use a few small boxes stacked together, covered with red cloth to set them in a group at different levels. Sprinkle rose petals, pearls, and/or cinnamon hearts among them – and you have a centerpeice as well! These sell for $15 per dozen, so about $1.25 per guest.

Heart-shaped lollipops – there are so many ways you could use these. Tie them with a ribbon along, tuck them in under the napkin ring, stick them in cupcakes, or place a few in the centerpieces for a unique touch. At only $4 for a dozen, these are an affordable way to treat your guests.
Snowflake Wedding DIY Projects

If you are planning a Snowflake Themed Wedding, here are a few craft projects from Micheals that you may be interested in:)

This snowflake wreath could be used as a centerpiece, place a rented hurricane glass in the middle with a candle burning in the middle. You could also use some white gosgrain ribbon and hang the on the church doors, above the alter or any place that needs a little something.

This is a very simple yet lovely idea for a wedding favor. You can purchase the bags, and add the snowflake accents and ribbon. Fill with mints, white chocolates, white candies….

This snowflake needlework design is actually fairly simple to complete and would be a great way to customize a table cloth, napkins, tabel runners, etc. If could also be done on white in a pale blue or silver color.

Another way to accent a table cloth, runner or napkin is to use stencils, fabric dye and spray on fabric paint. This table runner was dyed blue and then stenciled with white spray paint. You could do silver on white, white on silver, blue on silver, or blue on white as well.

Here is another unique idea that could be used for Save The Date cards, thank you cards or wedding favors. It is a card, with a detachable ornament keepsake. You could use these as wedding favors and include a thank you note inside so your thank you notes are taken care of:)
Christmas Wedding Favors

- christmas candies or chocolates
- shaped cookies (snowflakes, gingerbread men, etc) One wedding I attended last winter had gingerbread snowflakes with icing sugar sprinkled on top
- evergreen seedlings – there are actually companies who specialize in these! Treat each guest to a small evergreen seedling, planted in a small terracotta pot decorated to match the decor. They can then plant the seedling in spring!
- mistletoe
- fruitcake
- hot chocolate cones – who doesn’t love hot chocolate in winter? Buy a gourmet hot chocolate mix, and divide into individual servings. Place each serving in a small paper cone (make them from parchement or buy them premade) Top with marshmallows, twist, and tie shut with a ribbon. Insert a small candy cane into the ribbons.
- candy canes
- ornaments
Joanne’s Wedding – Candid Photos
So, Joanne is offically a Mrs. now – the wedding took place this weekend and was even better then we had hoped. The professional pics are not back yet of course, but here are some pictures I took myself.

This is the alter at the front of the church. During the ceremony, the photographer was the only one allowed to take pictures to avoid distractions – so I will have to wait to show more of the ceremony. It was a fairly flawless ceremony: except for a flower girl who’s dad helped her up the aisle. She was only three, and the crowd scared her, but it was so cute. The ceremony also included two vocal solos by a friend of the bride that were beautiful.
Following the ceremony, the wedding party climbed into a limo with the photographer for a series of surprise photo shoots. The first stop was McDonald’s were the couple posed with the child attendents and wedding party for some fun shoots before the little ones headed home for some down time before the reception. The rest of the wedding party the continued on to a number of surprise locations including: a Convertible Mustang in a Ford dealership, the fire hall, a local park with a gazebo, an elegant home in town with an amazing fireplace setting and more.
The reception had a fall / daisies / orange & yellow theme. Here, you can see the table settings, as well as a close up of the centerpieces with the cutlery set and favors. Below you will see the head table, with a centerpiece that was also used as the unity candle arrangement standing on the signing table during the ceremony.
The forecast for the weekend called for thunderstorms with a chance of snow, so to be safe, the decorator set up two photo sets in the reception hall. This one, on the left of the head table, featured hay bales, leaves, flowers, plants, pumpkins and more – even accented with a few fake mice and a spider! Family pictures were taken in front of this set-up. The arch from the ceremony was placed on the other side, with plants, candles and a wrought iron bench for a second photo spot, as well as a backdrop for the area were the presentations and speeches took place.
And last but not least – the cakes. If you follow my blog regularly, you’ve been waiting for this! This is my first attemted at a wedding cake in fondant! The larger cake is white, the smaller is chocolate (in retrospect, more people wanted chocolate so the larger should have been chocolate). The topper is a discontinued design from 1982 that we found on eBay for $60 (similar models in store were $125 – $150). As promised, I will be posting more on the cake-making process, including the things I learned in the process – in another post:)
Starfish ideas for a Beach Wedding
Posted by Crystal in Beach Weddings, DIY Weddings, Decorations, Destination Weddings, Wedding Favors

Starfish make a great theme or accent peice for any beach themed wedding. Here are some neat ideas for incorporating starfish into your decor.
1. Small starfish can be used to decorate each wedding invitation, program, placemarker or table marker.
2. Place Starfish on your wedding cake, in your centerpeice, in your flowers, or in garlands used for decor.
3. A large starfish can also make a great wedding favor. Tie each one with a ribbon and a personalized tag.
4. Create a beach wedding canopy by hanging Starfish, shells, and other sea “life” from the ceiling on fish wire, raffia or ribbon. This is a great way to bring a little beach into an indoor or tent reception as well!
Sand Dollar Wedding Theme
Posted by Crystal in Beach Weddings, DIY Weddings, Decorations, Destination Weddings, Wedding Favors, Wedding Themes
We are well into August, and you would think that beach weddings are coming to an end – but beach weddings: at destination locations: are actually quite popular during wedding months as well. And, if you are planning a beach wedding for next summer, end of season sales are a great way to save some money on your next decorating needs.Â
So, if beach weddings interest you, you will love these sand dollars. Sand dollars are beautiful and make a great beach wedding theme. Large sand dollars (3-4″) can be used as keepsake wedding favors: just tie each one with a raffia bow and a personalized tag.
Medium sizes make great decor peices. You can use a magic marker or gell pen to write on them and use them as place markers or table markers. They can be used in your centerpieces, or as accent pieces on the cake or guestbook tables.
Smaller sand dollars (1/2 – 1″) can be used to accent invitations, programs, place cards, table names, the guestbook, or even placed on small picks and inserted in among your flowers!

Joanne’s Wedding Favors
Posted by Crystal in Flower Wedding Themes, Real Weddings, Wedding Favors
Well, my brother-in-law proposed to his girlfriend last weekend and they had decided to have a August 2007 wedding. On Tuesday, she discovered she was pregnant!!! YEAH, I’m going to be an aunty! So, they have decided to move the wedding to October 2006 and tonight, she (Joanne) and I began wedding planning! We covered a lot today so I will share it in a few posts.
The Theme: Orange & Yellow Gerbera DaisiesÂ
Joanne’s Wedding Favors (130 guests)
She has decided to keep it simple. We purchased 200 of these orange organza on ebay for $2. They will be filled with chocolates or mints(undecided so far). We will make tags with their names and date and a small fabric daisy will be attached to each bag. We also found the daisies on ebay – about $5 for each 100 daisies.

The Cupcake Trend
Posted by Crystal in DIY Weddings, Wedding Cakes, Wedding Favors
While not necessarily a new trend, the cupcake wedding cake is a trend that is still holding strong.
The Benefits:
- Much easier for the DIY bride: if you mess up, you only ruin one, not the whole cake!
- NO CUTTING FEE: saves money
- Much easier to serve
Some Tips for the DIY/Budget Bride:
- You can find Cupcake Stackers on ebay for very affordable prices
- Add variety – use different colors, styles and designs on the cakes. You can even offer different flavors!
- Visit your local colleges and find out about Cake Decorating Classes. Many local colleges offer these are night classes and you can learn the basics of making sugar/icing flowers and other decor bits to really dress up your cupcakes!
Have Your Cake and Eat It To
Not sure you want to give up the “cutting the cake” picture. If your wedding is small, a small wedding cake is a better option. But, if you have a larger wedding, you can save money by having both! Have a small styrofoam cake, with one real layer for the wedding party to enjoy. Then, serve matching cupcakes to the guests.
You can display them with the cake, serve them from the buffet, display them as part of your centerpiece, or leave them on each individual plate as the wedding favor. You then save money on the cutting fee and you can also save money on the cost of a large cake if you are doing them cupcakes yourself.
Another option is to have a single tiered cake as the top of your cupcake stack as shown in the photo on the right. Or consider a combination of cupcakes, a wedding cake and cookies which makes a unique display, offers your guests more options and still saves you money.
