Silver Star eBay Finds #3

Posted by Chrys on February 29th, 2008

And here we are again, with the last of our series on great silver star eBay finds. I actually only have one item to show you today, but I liked it so much I thought it deserved it’s own post:) This wedding cake topper has a very unique, modern look to it, and would be perfect on top of a simple white wedding cake. The cake topper is available from Twinkle Designs for about $20, so it’s very affordable as well.

This cake topper would work well for a July 4th theme, a white & black theme, or a masquarade ball theme.

Silver Star eBay Finds #2

Posted by Chrys on February 28th, 2008

As I promised, I am back with a few more Silver Star finds today:) This time, I found some amazing decor touches!

Silver lanterns with star cut outs and etching - add to your decor, or use instead of flowers for your wedding party. Especially gorgeous for a candle-lite evening wedding! These are selling for $20 for the set of four.

I also really liked these silver star accents. They are 3D acrylic silver stars with glitter - and they are fairly large (6″ x 6″) without being heavy, perfect for hanging from the ceiling over your dance floor! They are sold in packs of ten, so it works out to about $2/star.

And that’s it for today:) I will have one more post tomorrow - come back then:)

Real Deal #8

Posted by Chrys on February 27th, 2008

It seems that this “one dress” real deal thing is catching on, lol. Once again, I stumbled upon a gown deal so impressive that I knew it couldn’t wait for the next real deal post. This one is for a $1500 Rena Koh gown that is BRAND NEW, never been worn. The seller purchased it in November of 2006 but never used or altered it. Now she is offering it with a starting bid of only $169 - and a buy it now of $299!!! Now THAT is a steal!!!

And a huge bonus: she has her own pictures so you can see the actual gown before you buy. Check out the listing here.

Silver Star eBay Finds #1

Posted by Chrys on February 27th, 2008

I love the idea of silver stars as a July 4th wedding theme and while looking for ideas for that theme,  I spent some time on eBay looking for inspiration. I thought I would share a few of the neat things I found for those of you planning a black and white, July 4th, Christmas, Silver or Star themed wedding:)

Navy Organza Bags with Silver Stars - these ones were listed a few times by different sellers, and you can pick them up for about 50 cents per bag. Add some white candies for a great wedding favor.  Silver Star Ring Bearer’s Pillow - this one is adorable, and it was listed for $13.

Cute Beach Bag Favors

I LOVE this favor idea from Beau-Coup. The little woven bags are about 67 cents each, and then you can customize them however you wish. This one, with the shell embellishment and brown and blue ribbons, would be perfect of a beach or nautical wedding.  The woven look would work well for an Easter or spring wedding, a rustic wedding, or any outdoor wedding.  For example, if you are having an Easter or spring wedding, you could use ribbons to match your colors, and fill with cadbury eggs, jelly beans, etc.

Affordable InStyle Bling!

Posted by Chrys on February 24th, 2008

Okay - so most of the time, if you flip though a magazine like InStyle - you’ll get lots of great ideas, but all way over your budget. Of course, there are exceptions - but you know what I mean. The affordable stuff doesn’t make the mags often. In the latest issue of InStyle magazine, there is a Two Takes features showing models with different hair styles - and the models are wearing earrings from Emitations - meaning YOU can afford them, lol.

Styles shown range in price from $29.99 to $79.99 per pair.

Not wedding related really, unless you are having a beach wedding - but it’s just to cool not to share:

Come & Go Shower

Posted by Chrys on February 21st, 2008

I read a article on a message board recently with an interesting question. A guest had been invited to a bridal shower that was being done as an Open House, meaning guests were free to come and go as they please. Is this okay? Yes it is - provided it is done right and it has some benefits:

- More time with each guest as they are not there all at once

- If you have a larger guest list, you can still fit them all in your house

If you are considering hosting a Open House, here are a few guidelines you can follow to make sure that all your guests have a pleasant experience.

1. Greet each guest personally and offer then refreshments and a seat. Make sure there is enough room in case a bunch show up at once. You do not want anyone feeling out of place.

2. Open gifts as they arrive and give a personal thanks. Then, place the gift with the card in a visible place so others can see what other guests brought.

3. Plan some games and regular bridal shower activities that guests can participate in when they come in.

4. Try to take a few minutes to talk one on one with each guest before they leave and when they do leave, make sure you say thank you and walk them out.

In the end - your goal is to provide just as nice of a time as they would have had at a more traditional shower. You want each guest to stay as long as they please - and never to feel rushed or out of place.

ido-album.jpgA friend of mine asked me for advice on how he could take the pictures at a relatives wedding to save money.

I reminded him that wedding pictures will last a lifetime, and every minute of that special day must be captured in great detail.

Consequently, I would not recommend anything other than a professional photographer, but if finance is tight, following this proven outline should lead to a collection of “treasured memories”

Initially, I would recommend close ups of centerpieces and the place settings, name cards and menus.

This can be followed up with wide shots of the venue before guests arrive and of course an overall view of the guests seated.

The bride and groom’s first dance is essential, plus the happy couple dancing with their parents. Photos of the bridal party dancing always prove popular and guests dancing in happy situations are other important subjects

Close ups of the cake prior to the cutting should not be overlooked and remember to show the bride displaying her new ring to the guests. Photographs of the toasts to the couple will always be treasured memories. Remember to show close ups of happy smiling faces.

Include close ups of guests’ faces, having a great time. These are best taken later in the evening …after they have loosened up a little. remember to depict varying situations both sitting at tables and dancing

Family members and children also make great subjects together with close ups of the band, DJ and the Master of Ceremonies.

The bride and groom cutting the cake is always a highlight so take plenty of shots covering this situation.

Traditions vary from country to country with removal of the brides garter by the single males and the catching of the bouquet by the single ladies being two that I am familiar with. Whatever tradition is prevelant in your country, make sure it is included in your photographs.

Final shots should be of the couple being farewelled by guests and of course departing in their vehicle.

Remember, you only get one chance at these situations so take plenty of photographs and you are sure to gather a great collection of treasured memories.

Interesting!

Posted by Chrys on February 20th, 2008

When I saw the thumbnail for this black & white wedding gown, I was a little unimpressed but something told me to take a closer look and I actually really like it! It has a VERY sexy low-cut back with just the slightest train - perfect for an informal or beach wedding. The black and silver embroidered pattern really gives it a whole character all on it’s own! This gown would be lovely for a unique bride, and for a more formal wedding, it would make a great bridesmaid’s gown as well!

For a bridal gown - it is REALLY affordable ($185!!).
