Sex In The City Inspired DIY & More
Posted on July 6th, 2010
Before the first Sex in the City movie came out, I’d never seen the show. I wouldn’t say I wasn’t a fan – I just didn’t have cable at the time and my limited channel selection didn’t offer the chance to watch the show. I didn’t quite understand all the hype – but once I had a chance to see the movie, I loved it. First, there’s a wedding. Well almost a wedding. That pretty much sold me already lol. Then there’s the fashion! I get it! I understand why so many women LOVE the show. The shoes! The clothes! The fabulousness! I can’t wait to see the second movie.
Anyway – I have seen a few Sex in the City inspired DIY projects recently and I thought I would share a few of my favorites.
Love Carrie’s decadent, glitzy headband from the Sex In The City 2 movie? Check out Kristen Turner’s DIY version - totally bridal-worthy!

And of course – shoes. I know plenty of women who would LOVE to have Carrie’s designer shoe collection in their closet. I know I would lol. Here are two great DIY projects that show you how to make your own Sex In The City Inspired styles for less.

Posted on June 23rd, 2010
Fun, funky wedding bouquets have been a popping up on the wedding scene in many different variations in recent years. We’ve seen buttons, brooches, crystals, rhinestones, balloons, felts, feathers, paper, origami, and even Christmas ornaments used to make some fantastic bouquet alternatives. This newest DIY bouquet idea uses t-shirts. Seriously. And it’s really kind of chic. I love it! As an added bonus – you could recycle old shirts which would make this not only VERY budget friendly but also environmentally friendly as well.
Project found on The Bride’s Cafe – where you will also find detailed instructions and more pictures.

Posted on June 13th, 2010
As a graphic designer, wedding invitations have a special place in my heart – especially custom designed invitations that really showcase the personality of the couple and their wedding. Of course- some work out better then most – and more often then not you get a love/hate result. Some people love it – some people hate it. What matters is that the couple loved it.
Here are a few fantastic Love/Hate examples!

The laptop invitation – I personally LOVE this one. It’s such a cute idea – perfect for a couple who meet online or had a long distance relationship. Or for the couple that is proud to flaunt their geek side – kind of like me and my computer programming hubby lol. (Source)

Here’s a fun idea for a movie themed wedding – or for a couple that just loves their movies. A wedding invitation designed to match your favorite movie poster. I think it’s genius – my husband hates it. Like I said – Love/Hate lol. (Source)
This one is interesting. I don’t love it – but I appreciate it’s uniqueness. I think this couple probably has a fantastic sense of humor and chances are their friends and family will get that. It is definitely a very neat idea. (Source)

Posted by Crystal in Black & White, Bridal Gowns & AccessoriesDIY Quilled Necklace
Posted on June 9th, 2010
This gorgeous homemade necklace uses a centuries-old technique of quilling that creates a very unique look in beautiful colors that you can customize to suit your wedding. This is also a great way to incorporate keepsakes such as ticket stubs or love letters from the dating and engagement years into meaningful, wearable art. New to quilling? Check your local craft store. Many craft store offer classes to help get you started.
Quilled memory necklace
Supplies and tools:
Thin paper strips for quilling: scrapbook papers, ticket stubs, old love letters and other paper mementos
Quilling tool
X-Acto knife and cutting mat
Tacky glue
1 spool tiger tail
1 package each of 3 mm and 4 mm Blue Moon glass pearl beads
1 clasp set
Crimp beads
Crimp tool
Bent-nose pliers
Wire cutter
2 6 mm jump rings
1/4 yard Tulle
1/4 yard of 1/4 inch wide Organdy ribbon
Hand sewing needle
Thread
Optional book: “The Art of Paper Quilling, Designing Handcrafted Gifts and Cards”
Directions:
1. Using paper strips for quilling, make several flower shapes in various sizes and colors. Set aside.
2. Cut two pieces of tiger tail about 12 inches long.
3. Attach one end of one tiger tail strand to clasp using crimp bead and crimp tool. Trim excess wire.
4. String glass pearl beads for about 8 to 9 inches.
5. Attach one jump ring to opposite end using a crimp bead and crimp tool. Trim excess wire. Set aside.
6. Repeat steps three to five for second tiger tail strand.
7. Cut two pieces of tiger tail – one 8 inches long and another 10 inches long.
8. Attach tiger tail strands to jump ring. Adjust the 8 inch strand to measure approximately 6 inches and the 10 inch strand to measure approximately 8 inches.
9. Lay paper flowers out on work surface so they fit nicely between the two pearl strands and on top of the two tiger tail strands.
10. Cut two pieces of tulle slightly larger than your flower layout, following the outline of the flower shapes. Cut two large strips of tulle – about 3/4 inches wide and 3 inches long – to tie onto necklace at the sides.
11. Sandwich the two tiger tail wires between the tulle. Hand stitch the tulle together close to the tiger tail wire.
12. Tie the tulle onto the necklace at jump rings. Trim tulle to desired length.
13. Cut two pieces of organdy ribbon each 2 1/2 inches long. Tie onto necklace at jump rings. Trim.
14. Glue paper flower in place on top of the tulle following desired layout. Let dry.
15. Add glass pearl beads to flower centers. Let dry.

Wedding Dress Up Dolls
Posted on June 1st, 2010
Hello Ladies – yes I know, it’s been a while. Life has been insane over here lately. At work we just finished opening a new showroom which meant 50-60 hour work weeks and weekend overtime. I barely had time to breath – but the showroom is open, the grand opening has been done, and I’m back!
So I figured we’d ease back into this blogging thing with something simple and fun – a cool little internet game. Basically it’s Dress Up Dolls gone digital – with a wedding theme. It’s a fun way to waste a little time – and if you have a flower girl this might be a nice little surprise for her as well.
Here’s a screen shot – and you can play the game here.
Posted by Crystal in Wedding PlanningCrafty Crocheted Wedding Cake
Posted on April 25th, 2010
I found this beauty today on Crafty Crafty. No – it’s not a real cake. It’s a crocheted wedding cake meant to be used to store and protect china dinnerware but if you’re planning a different dessert for your wedding and want a cute alternative for decor and photo opps – this could be it.
This would also be a great decor piece in the center of your candy buffet or dessert buffet if you are opting for that over a traditional cake dessert.
It’s definitely got a Martha Stewart feel to it.
The pattern is available for free from Berroco.
