2 Hearts Wedding Favors

Posted by budgetdreams on May 22nd, 2006

Here is another cheap wedding idea I ran into today. These "2 Hearts" favor boxes are $4.95 for a package of 24! That's about 20 cents each! You could put m&m's, smarties, skittles, mints, seeds, rose petals, peanuts, or any little treat you wanted inside.

Here is another affordable favor idea - these Silver Heart boxes are 12 for $8.95 and the mints are included! That's about 75 cents each.

Neat Decor Ideas from Martha Stewart Spring 2006

Posted by budgetdreams on May 22nd, 2006

When it comes to decor, I still love Martha Stewart. I wanted to share some of my favorite budget friendly ideas from her latest Weddings magazine. Click on the links to see photos on her website for each idea!

Wrapping Paper Table Runner - it sounds tacky, but take a look - it looks elegant and for only a few bucks a table - it creates a unique and wonderful look! Try a beach print for a beach wedding, a polka dot print for a polka dot theme, roses for a romantic them, etc.

Basket Centerpiece - this is a wonderful idea for a fall wedding! Place various sizes of wicker baskets filled with fresh harvest fruit as a centerpiece. She also used mini baskets with cherries as the favors.

Those are my two favorites - enjoy:)

Polka Dot Flower Girl Dress

Posted by budgetdreams on May 21st, 2006

foreverbridals1.jpgLast week I received an email from a reader asking for advice on a flower girl dress for a black and white polka dot theme. I suffered a major computer crash and lost the email, so I thought I would respond on the blog in hopes that she will find it here:)

(for an earlier post on Polka Dot Wedding Themes, click here)

There are a number of options, each will vary in expense of course:

1. Make A Dress - you can pick any flower girl dress pattern you like and have it made using a polka dot fabric. If you can sew, this will not be to expensive. Otherwise, you may be able to find an affordable local seamstress.

2. Look On Ebay - Search Ebay for “Black Polka Dot Dress” at any given time and you will find a number of lovely dresses. They vary in price and quality but a little preserverance and you can probably find the perfect dress for a very reasonable price.

3. The Sash Look - The sash look is very popular right now. You can find many flower girl dresses available with sashes in any color. Or, purchase a simple white dress and have a polka dot sash custom made for a touch of polka.

And, last but not least, some dresses I found while searching:) Each one will link to the website I found it on.

Use Table Markers to Enhance Your Theme

Posted by budgetdreams on May 7th, 2006

Everyone loves a theme wedding - and every bride on a budget loves finding ways to incorporate the theme without a big expense. This post comes from a discussion in a yahoo group recently on table names. Most receptions are set up with each table holding a table number. This helps with seating, remembering seats, directing a buffet, etc.

If you are going to have table markers anyway, use unique table names rather then basic numbers to enhance your theme! It doesn't cost you any more, and will be a lot more fun! In the group, we had a couple who work and meet at an airport naming their tables after different airlines. Another couple who loved to read are naming each table after a couple from a classic novel. Yet another couple are using famous couples.

Here are a few more ideas:

Asain Theme - asian cities, asian flowers

Garden Wedding - flowers

Beach Wedding -different types of sea creatures, boats, islands, famous beaches

Scottish Wedding - clan names, castles

Color Theme - if you are using a specific color theme - use those colors in different languages

Love - name each table with the word love in a different language

Flowers: Can Fresh and Fake Mix?

Posted by budgetdreams on May 6th, 2006

Red Roses and White Calla LiliesIt used to be that silk flowers were cheaper then real flowers - which was an influencing factor in many cases. Today, fresh in season flowers are often cheaper then silk versions! Many bride's still prefer silk flowers for their DIY and keepsake properties, and also as an affordable alternative to out of season flowers! In some cases, a mixture of real and silk flowers may be the most affordable option!

Two recent examples that come to mind:

This winter I attended a wedding where the bride's choice of flowers were red roses, red gerbera daisies and white calla lilies. The bride's first thought was to go silk, as calla lilies can be very expensive that time of year. A little research showed her that while calla lillies were much cheaper in silk, the roses and gerberas would actually be much more expensive! So, she ordered white calla lilies in silk off of ebay, and brought them to her florist. The florist then used the white calla lillies with real red roses in the bride's bouquet with red gerbera hand ties for the bridesmaids. The remaining calla lilies were used to create boutinierres for the men in the wedding party as well.

Another bride I worked with recently choose a very classic red rose bouquet but wanted a very rare little white orchid as a accent flower. The florist offered her silk versions of the accent flower: which look just as real and cost the bride nearly $100 less when all was said and done!

Thinking of using some off season flowers? Before you commitment, check prices for fresh and fake: and don't be afraid to mix.

Pretty In Polka Dots

Posted by budgetdreams on May 4th, 2006

polka dot wedding dressI talked to a bride today who is having a black and white polka dot theme with pale pink accents. I have never heard of this before but I think if would be absolutely lovely! Here are some ideas for incorporating this theme:

A tea length wedding gown is perfect for a fun wedding like this! The photo shown here is Madison from Chrys Cross Bridal ($199) rendered to show a polka dot sash and top with pink trim. Matching bridesmaids gowns in black and white polka with a pale pink sash and top would be the perfect compliment!Â\ Or pink polka dot dresses with black sashes for a calmer, romantic feel. The men would look dashing in polka dot vest with pale pink boutinieres. (for a follow up post on polka dot flower girls, click here)

polka dot cally lily bouquetFlowers could be pale pink roses or gerbera daisies. The bridesmaids would be accented with pink ribbon, the bride’s could have polka dot ribbon. For a simple yet stunning centerpiece, place a single pale pink gerbera in a clear class vase tied with a polka dot ribbon. The bouquets shown here from Jenny’s Flowers would look stunning in a pale pink color with the polka dot ribbons.

Your table could be set with white dishes and table cloth , with a pale pink runner and black napkins or have tables alternating white and black table clothes with pink linens for a “polka dot” room. Or go all out with table settings like the one show below from Distinctive Event Rentals.

For a simple yet stylish guest book, find a scrapbook with black pages. Using pink and white cardstock, cut circles in different sizes and paste one of each color on the right side of each 2 page spread. Pick a white circle as the main circle, and then have the pink circle behind it as an accent. The accent circle could be only part way on the page, with excess trimmed off. Make each page a little different. On the left side of each two page spread, place a black and white photo of your and your fiance. Then, provide pink gell pens for guests to sign in the white circles.
