Posted by budgetdreams on July 13th, 2007

Flowers may be one of the tricker aspects of a black and white wedding. Yes - you can just go all white - but many brides are looking for something more - a unique way to bring black into their flowers as well. This selection of photos should help inspire you with ideas on how to add black into your bouquets and floral decor as well.

COTW: Black & White Wedding Cakes

Posted by budgetdreams on July 9th, 2007

We haven’t done a Color Of The Week in a long time, and I think it is time that we come back to it. I have decided to revisit Black & White because I see this theme coming up often and I love it.

We’ve done a post before with Black & White Wedding Cakes - and it has been a very popular theme this year so we thought we would see if we could find some more ideas! You can find our first Black & White Gallery here. Our newest gallery offers 18 great designs for a black and white or tuxedo themed wedding. They range from simply (aka affordable) to luxurious, fun and funky to elegant and formal. Enjoy - and don’t miss the rest of our Black & White posts all week:)

Monarch Butterfly Templates - DIY Idea

Posted by budgetdreams on October 6th, 2006

wi-butterflies1-275.jpg

ThinkWeddings sells templates for DIY brides who want to print their own invitations, RSVP cards, save the date cards, programs, place cards, thank you cards, cd labels, guest sheets and more. They have an entire collection featuring Monarch Butterflies that are simple yet could be VERY elegant.

The image above is the template for the invitation. This template is $9.95, or $14.99 if they add the text for you. My suggestion would be to take this template, add your wording in an elegant black font.

- Print the invitation on white cardstock or a vellum depending on what you prefer.

- Then, cut some burnt orange cardstock 1/2 inch larger then the invitation.

- Line the inviation and ornage backing up so the white invitation is centered on the orange cardstock. I suggest using scrapbooking double sided tape to stick them together rather then glue to prevent bunching.

- Now you can finish off your invitation by attaching a brown ribbon, small leaf charm, a butterfly charm or something similar at the top of each. For a different look, cut two short lengths of brown ribbon, and attach between the white and orange layers at the top and bottom. Then, fold the invitation in half and tie with the ribbon!

You could also use yellow, black or brown for the cardstock.

Butterfly fall Wedding?

Posted by budgetdreams on October 3rd, 2006

I got an email recently from a reader who wanted to know if a butterfly theme can work for a fall wedding. Now, I am a firm believer that your wedding should work for you first - not the season - but when it comes to your budget - there are many reasons why you would want to stick with a theme that uses seasonal colors, flowers etc. So, I decided to give it some thought.

Generally when you think of a butterfly wedding, you think of pastel colors, spring flowers, etc. So, who do you make this work for fall? MONARCHS!! Yes, those lovely orange and black winged butterflies! Their orange coloring makes them perfect for a fall wedding because they will match the colors that are in season for this time of year!

SO, this will be our theme for the next little while. I will spend some time looking for resources from decor to wedding invitations online featuring monarchs. So, if you are planning a fall butterfly wedding, bookmark our blog and check back often:)

(PS - the butterfly invitation pictured below is from a great little site that carries a wonderful selection of wedding invitations online in every price range. This style is elegant yet simple enough to work for a fall or spring wedding!)

Tiffany Blue Wedding Favors - or not.

Posted by budgetdreams on September 22nd, 2006

I probably won’t be posting an article on wedding favors for this color theme. One of my colleagues, Blake, has an awesome article on her blog entitled Because Diamonds Are Forever: The Tiffany Blue Wedding Theme.

If you are planning a tiffany blue wedding, this is a must read! Not only does she share a wealth of favor ideas, she also shares ideas and advice for color combinations using Tiffany Blue as the base.

WOW!!! Tiffany Blue Drinks

Posted by budgetdreams on September 22nd, 2006

Okay, remember when I said you can get almost ANYTHING in tiffany blue? Well, know I found another one! To be totally honest, I know almost nothing about alcohol - I drink coolers and well, coolers, lol. But, you could take this picture to your bartender and ask them what is being used along the rim.
